Life as a Physio – Si En Wong

Si En Wong

“Growing up in Malaysia, there was not much exposure to physiotherapy. I entered the course wanting to do a post grad degree in medicine at the end of it. However during the four years of my degree, I have come to understand physiotherapy better and realise how much I am able to be a part of people’s lives. I enjoyed working with people through their rehabilitation. It is amazing thing to see how people progress and overcome their challenges. Such an honour to be able to be a part of that process.”

“For me, I think the most challenging thing about being a physiotherapist is fully understanding my client’s beliefs. The mind is a powerful thing, no two clients ideas or thoughts are the same. How a person thinks about their injury affects their behaviour towards it. This then also affects their reactions when a diagnosis or treatment plan is provided. I believe a lot of education needs to be provided, making sure that the client understands what is going on with their body. When it comes to forming a treatment plan, I ask for my clients opinions, incorporate their ideas, their likes. It’s a partnership.”
