Physiotherapist & Clinical Pilates Instructor
I have over 10 years of experience as a physiotherapist in both the public and private systems. I completed a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) at Curtin University and started my career as a physiotherapist at Royal Perth Hospital where I gained a wealth of experience across various physiotherapy disciplines but primarily in neurological rehabilitation, where I treated patients following a stroke or head injury and patients with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Guillaine-Barre syndrome, and Friedrich’s ataxia. My experience in neurological rehabilitation has stayed with me throughout my career as it trained me to focus on patients movement patterns, neuromuscular control and functional rehabilitation. It also highlighted the importance of ensuring patient goals and quality of life are central to any treatment plan.
After several years of working in the public system, I then completed a Certificate of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and commenced work in private practice in 2008. My private practice experience primarily includes pre and post surgical rehabilitation, sporting injuries and spinal injuries/pain.
I strongly believe in working in partnership with clients to achieve their goals and to take a holistic approach to patient management. I also like to focus on the cause of a clients injury/pain rather than just treating the symptoms. This helps to prevent further injury and results in long term improvements.
I have trained in DMA’s Clinical Pilates course and feel this is a fantastic way to achieve control of the neuromuscular system to treat and prevent pain/ injury and optimise function, whether that be day to day activities or high level sporting performance or anywhere in between.
My love of sport, in particular soccer and long distance running, is what led to my interest in physiotherapy. The many injuries I have sustained over the years on the soccer field and from pounding the pavement has allowed me to understand, from a patients perspective, what is important in the rehabilitation process and has inspired me to want to make a difference and achieve the best results possible with my patients!
My areas of clinical interest include:
- Lower back pain
- Neck pain and headaches
- Sporting injuries/rehabilitation
- Pre/post surgical rehabilitation
- Neurological rehabilitation
- Clinical Pilates
- Dry Needling
